Apple Safari - a driveby download or what?

Millions of people are currently wondering what a "Safari" icon is doing on their Windows desktop. Is it something they installed? Is it adware? Or has Apple turned to the dark side?

Well, I'm afraid that Apple have turned to the dark side. If it wasn't annoying enough that iTunes keeps appearing on your desktop if you just want QuickTime, Apple's latest ploy is to push their Safari web browser out as an "update" to your existing software.. even if you have never installed Safari before.

A legitimate upgrade? Or deceptive advertising? Read more about the drive-by install here, and then decide if Apple software has any place on your Windows desktop machine.

Thanks for the info, and have you also found "Mobile Me" in your control panel as well? I'm not sure at what stage this appeared but I didn't want it and didn't ask for it. I'm also really fed up with Apple inserting all these "helper" tasks in my startup for devices I don't have. I used to have a lot of respect for the company but since they started all this stealth installation of software I'm treating them the same way as suppliers of spyware.

I want a non-IE browser for my Texas based laptop. I find that Firefox freezes on this machine, so I use Safari. It ain't too bad.

If you are getting something good on PC then why not give it a try. If it's not liked then it can be deleted. It's certainly better than IE.
I wish there was a mac version of Windows live writer.
