Fake job domains 23/6/11

Another day, another set of fake job domains forming part of this long-running scam. The domains were registered just two days ago to a presumably fictitious character called "Leonid Pravduk".

au-joblists.com
europ-joblist.com
gb-totaljob.com
uk-joblists.com
us-joblists.com

The "job" being offered is usually something like a money mule or taking part in a reshipping scam. In any case, the so-called job is illegal and should be avoided.

If you have a copy of a sample email, please share it in the comments section!

I've been getting at least 7 of these emails a day. They all say they are from myself, and so I cannot block the user. I mark them as junk, but cannot get rid of them!

This is what they say:

Great opportunity for energetic and enthusiastic individuals ready to move ahead in a great career!

World Wide Youth Exchange is currently seeking Exchange Co-ordinators nationwide to place and
supervise foreign exchange students for summer programs, as well as semester and academic year.

A good knowledge of how schools and the education system work
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to communicate with a range of different people
Good organisation and report writing skills
Good computer skills and MS Office knowledge
Internet access (at home or at work)
Minimum age requirement: 21 years
No criminal background

Great compensation ($15.50/hour), immediate start and your own working environment
are just a few of the benefits of this position.

Please send your resume to: Marquis@usa-totaljob.com

The email with the resume changes every time

I have just recieved this email from myself too!!

I have immediately changed my password but any idea where the virus is? On my computer or android phone!?!

Conrad Longmore said...

You don't have a virus or anything, it is remarkable simple to spoof the "From" address to be anything you want.. it is like if you wrote somebody a letter, you could put Mickey Mouse on the bottom if you wanted!

The reason they do this is that it often gets around spam filters. But anything that is "from" you that you don't recognise is almost always malcicious in some way.

Thank you Conrad for letting me know. I was incredible worried. I will keep an eye on this in the future.

How you block these emails really depends on how you have your mail configured. Because they are "from" you, sometimes your mailsystem will be set up to always allow messages like that through (i.e. whitelisting).

Depending on your setup, you could un-whitelist your own address or domain, or even block all incoming mail "from" you altogether. How you do it depends on your own circumstances and setup however.
