FOG RANT: turn your lights on!

Much of the part of the UK I live in is currently either a) foggy or b) very foggy. Freezing rain has turned the roads to ice and visibility is bugger all. At the moment the roads look like they do in the picture, and there are multiple accidents all over the place.

What amazes me is the sheer amount of complete f--king idiots driving with NO LIGHTS ON WHATSOEVER. Do they not notice that everyone else has their fog lights on? Do they not notice the radio reports of all the accidents?

Grey or silver cars in particular are almost invisible. Perhaps it is time to invest in a front-mounted laser cannon to blast these idiots of the road..

The visibility rules in the highway code for _fog_ lights are actually quite short distances before you should turn them on.

From the internets:
Rule 133 of the current Highway Code states: - 'Use fog lights when visibility is seriously reduced’
This generally means when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 ft). You MUST NOT use fog lights at other times'

Normal lights.. yes.. agree with that one. I also welcome the new 'Running lights' that cars now seem to have where if the engine is on there are lights on warning / indicating to other road users that the car has the ability to move.

@1: indeed so. I live near a river where the fog can lurk in pockets.

My other pet hate is the idiots who have their fog lights on ALL THE TIME, which seems to have become worse since daytime running lights came out. Apart from the fact that they dazzle oncoming motorists, all you actually achieve is burning the darned things out. Fog lights are not easy to replace!

The typical configuration is a Renault Scenic running one on sidelight and one foglight having burned out every other bulb..
